NECASE

Nepalese Canadian Society of Edmonton is an organization of Nepalese living in and around the city of Edmonton, Canada. Nepalese Canadian Society of Edmonton (NECASE) was established in 1999 and incorporated in Alberta in 23 May 2000 with an objective of promoting and developing Nepalese culture, arts, music, tradition and heritage. With the growing number of Nepalese members each year in Edmonton, NECASE is active in various activities that brings Nepalese people together and promotes the Nepalese culture, arts, music, tradition and heritage to the Edmonton Communities. Established in 1999 when the Nepali population in Edmonton was very small, the organization has now grown significantly, the members numbering over 180. Its activities cover a wide horizon, ranging from running language school for Nepali children to conducting fundraising activities, participating in various intercultural activities such as Heritage festival, organizing regular entertainment and reunion events, organizing and promoting sports activities, celebrating Nepali festivals, and providing information and reception services to Nepalese coming to Edmonton.

Mission Statement

To Promote goodwill and understanding among Nepalese, People of Nepalese origin, and Canadians by fostering appreciation and responsibility towards Nepalese society and the multicultural society of Canada.

Objectives

The objectives of the Nepalese Canadian Society of Edmonton are as follows:

  1. Promote and develop Nepalese culture, arts, music, traditions, and heritage.

  2. Arrange lectures, discourses and discussions on various topics such as social, cultural, educational, economical, and other issues.

  3. Provide public educational displays and exhibitions concerning the Nepalese culture and traditions.

  4. Assist financially other registered charitable organizations, provided they are "Qualified Donees" as defined by the Income Tax Acts.

  5. Assist newly arrived Nepalese who encounter language barriers or other problems in understanding Canadian customs and traditions.

  6. Establish a cultural centre for community gathering to carry out the above objectives.

  7. Acquire land, by purchase or otherwise, erect or otherwise provide a building or buildings for social and community purposes.

  8. Encourage children for excellence in studies and promote amateur games and exercises

  9. Establish and maintain an information centre.

  10. Provide all necessary equipment and furniture for carrying on its various objects.

  11. Sell, manage, lease, mortgage, dispose of, or otherwise deal with the property of the society.

  12. Design and execute various programs to alleviate poverty in Nepal.

It is with great pride that I serve as President of NECASE, a contemporary organization that is solely dedicated to enrich Nepalese heritage in Canada.

I am also delighted to have the opportunity to work with wonderful board members assisting community in achieving its goals of promoting goodwill and understanding among Nepalese, People of Nepalese origin, and Canadians by fostering appreciation and responsibility towards Nepalese and the multicultural societies of Canada.

Our activities include teaching (language), helping (by fundraising & donations), participating (intercultural programmes), organizing (festivals, picnics & camping), sporting and entertaining (soccer, volleyball & skies), empowering (providing information and reception services to Nepalese) etc.

I am proud of what NECASE have achieved so far, and look forward to our future as we are striving to improve the quality of our activities.

I appreciate the active participation of everyone to share our desire to provide opportunities of improving the quality of living through mutual understanding and exchange of thoughts.
